Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky

Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (Константин Эдуардович Циолковский). He was born in Ryazan (South of Moscu) in 1857. He was a scientist and pioneer of the astronautic theory. He died in 1935.

Interesting envelope commemorating the 130 anniversary of Tisolkovsky´s birth.

In his most important work, "The exploration of the cosmic space through the reaction engines" (1903), anticipated the theories of the modern astronautics and exposed for the first time the possibility to travel through the space through the propulsion of the reaction rockets.

Intercosmos - Mongolia

ИнтерКосмос was a Soviet program that included manned missions to space. The participant countries were Soviet allieds from the Warsow Pact and countries like France and India. Between 1978 and 1988 there were fourteen international crews.

On March 23, 1981 Zhugderdemidiyn Gurragcha from Mongolia went to space whith the Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Dzhanibekov in the Mission Soyus 39.

Three stamps were dedicated to the "Intercosmos URSS-Mongolia" with face values of 6, 15 and 32 kops., issued in 1981.

Chernuchka Cosmonaut Dog

Although many soviet dogs died in their flights to the space, some of them returned alive. One of the Soviet space dogs was Chernuchka (Чернyшка). The Spunik missions of the 3/9/1961 (with Chernuchka) and 3/25/1961 (with Zvezdochka) were a complete success.

Three week after, the Vostok 1 carried the first cosmonaut of the world, Jury Gagarin.

Laika The First Animal in Orbit the Earth

The dog Laika (Лайка), was the first alive animal in orbiting the Earth. She did it in the Soviet Sputnik 2 on the 3/11/1957, a month after the first satellite Sputnik 1 was put into orbit.

Like other animals in the sapce, Laika died betwen five and sevent hours after the lunch, long before it was planned.
